Violets Are Blue Floral Design Finds Success with Help from SCORE Indianapolis
Business Grows After Contacting SCORE “Mentors to America’s Small Business”
(Indianapolis, IN)— Courtney Wiley, owner of Violets Are Blue Floral Design has turned an idea she had seven years ago with guidance from SCORE Indianapolis into a thriving locally-owned store that has received local recognition.
SCORE Indianapolis assists area entrepreneurs and small business owners with FREE advice on managing their business challenges. SCORE volunteer mentors provide confidentially, free face-to-face, video, and email mentoring. Last year, SCORE Indianapolis provided services to 960 small business owners.
Bill Petrovic, a SCORE Indianapolis Mentor says, “Courtney came to SCORE several years ago looking for guidance on how to get her business started.” Courtney adds, “Bill gave me very valuable help in networking with other entrepreneurs, pointed me to valuable workshops to help me educate myself, and, most importantly, assisted me in discussions about my financials.”
After receiving a Psychology degree from Purdue University and a master's in Social Work from IUPUI, Courtney worked as a therapist and counselor. She always loved flowers and floral arrangements, so she took a class in 2013 to learn about floral design. From then on, she was hooked! She then embarked on her floral design business focusing on weddings and corporate events.
Wiley says, “I was ready for a change and, while happy for those that I served as a counselor, I’m extremely energized by the beauty and positivity of flowers!” She adds, “During these challenging times and as a local, small business flower shop, thinking outside the box is necessary to stay afloat, and to get my amazing employees back to work!”.
